Fossil Creek Strings Private Studios Keller, TX

Westlake Academy A Charter School in Westlake, TX

• Started in Fall of 2004
• Instruction to students in 1st through 4th grades.
• Obligatory program for 150 students learning a Stringed instrument.
• Instruction paid for through public school funds not privately funded.
• Instruction on Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
• All students purchase instruments of identical potential.
• Ensemble for those already having played before the program started

Keller Independent School District Keller, TX

• Started in Fall of 2003
• Instruction to students in 1st through 4th grades.
• Eight elementary schools serviced.
• Instruction paid for through individual contributions by parents.
• Instruction on Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
• All students purchase instruments of identical potential.
• Ensemble for those already having played before the program started

Students of the arts continue to outperform their non-arts peers on the SAT, according to reports by the College Entrance Examination Board. In 2004, SAT takers with coursework/experience in music performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal portion of the test and 40 points higher on the math portion than students with no coursework or experience in the arts. Scores for those with coursework in music appreciation were 63 points higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math portion.
